Black bear tallow really is one of natures wonders.  Bear tallow has been used for cooking, waterproofing, even predicting the weather for centuries.  Its benefits for the process of making soap are undeniable.  Soap with bear tallow is incredibly conditioning.  It will leave your skin feeling soft and clean while rinsing off completely.  

We are a family of responsible bear hunters.  Our tallow supply comes from wild bears we harvest each year.  In the spirit of respecting the animal we use as much of the bear as possible.  Black Bear Soap Company is an extension of that ethos. 

Maine is believed to have one of, if not the largest population of black bears in the lower 48 states.  The population is estimated to be in excess of 30,000 bears.  In addition, the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife has one of the longest running bear management studies in the country dating back to 1975.  Since 2005, the population estimate has increased by 30% The current goal of State Managers is to stabilize the population where it is.

At Black Bear Soap Company, we understand that bear tallow soap may not be for everyone.  That's why we offer a line of 100% vegan soaps as well.  We truly believe we have a soap for everyone.

This is simply a measure of how much the bar will exfoliate your skin.  Need to shed a few layers? Go for a 10/10.  Just need a quick wash up? 1/10 will do just fine.  This isn't a measure of how well a bar cleans.  All our soap will make plenty of rich lather and leave your skin feeling ready for what's next.  Soaps with no added exfoliants do not have a rating.

Unscented Black Bear Soap smells like well, soap.  Trust us, it doesn't smell like a bear.  For our scented soaps we use essential oils only.  We do not use fragrance oils which are mostly synthetic.  There's no such thing as a "Bay Rum" plant to extract a scent from.  Our scents are true to the source.

The answer to this varies greatly depending on how often you use it.  Do you shower before and after the gym?  If so, expect the bar to last 2-3 weeks.  If Sunday night is bath night, this bar will last months.  Storing your bars on a well draining soap dish between uses will help it dry out and last a lot longer.

Our bars are 3" x 2" x 1.25" and weigh a little over 4 ounces when cut.  We find this size to be very comfortable to hold for most hands.  You will not need two hands to hold it.  Bars are cut by hand and lose a little weight as they cure so finished weights will vary slightly.
